{"id":396,"date":"2016-05-08T02:10:46","date_gmt":"2016-05-08T02:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wellformedness.com\/blog\/?p=396"},"modified":"2019-08-29T13:36:56","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T13:36:56","slug":"libfix-report-may-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.wellformedness.com\/blog\/libfix-report-may-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Libfix report for May 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two bits of\u00a0creative morphology I&#8217;ve been seeing around the city:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Lime-a-rita<\/em>: This trademark (of Anheuser-Busch InBev) isn&#8217;t just a redundant way to refer to a margarita (which has a lime base\u2014a non-lime &#8220;margarita&#8221; is a barbarism), but rather a &#8220;light American lager&#8221; blended with additional lime-y-ness. I have to imagine this coinage, albeit rather corporate, was helped along by the existence of the truncation\u00a0<em>&#8216;rita,<\/em> occasionally used in casual conversation by their most comitted devotees.<\/li>\n<li><em>-otto<\/em>: I first came aware of this through\u00a0<em>pastotto<\/em>,\u00a0the suggested name for a dish of pasta (perhaps penne), fried in olive oil and butter and then cooked in stock, like <em>risotto<\/em>; according to popularizer\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/12\/02\/dining\/02mini.html?ref=dining\">Mark Bittman<\/a>,\u00a0this is an old trick. Now, that\u00a0one looks a bit blend-y, given that the\u00a0<em>ris-<\/em> part of\u00a0<em>risotto<\/em> is really a reference to arborio rice, and that the final\u00a0<em>-a<\/em> in the base\u00a0<em>pasta<\/em>\u00a0appears to be lost in the combination.
